Scottsdale, Ariz. – Tread Lightly!, a non-profit dedicated to promoting outdoor recreation through stewardship and educational programs, will receive $500,000 from the sale of the first production unit of the 2024 GMC HUMMER EV Edition 1 SUV at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction on Jan. 28, 2023. The non-profit will receive the full amount raised for the GMC HUMMER EV SUV, as Barrett-Jackson waived the fees and commissions typically associated with their collector vehicle auctions.

“We’re proud to support Tread Lightly! and their mission through the monumental sale of VIN 001 of the GMC HUMMER EV Edition 1 SUV at Barrett-Jackson,” said Duncan Aldred, global vice president of Buick and GMC. “We’re honored to start the year off with this donation to a great cause. With the continued support of Barrett-Jackson to make this donation 100 percent a charitable endeavor, proceeds will support Tread Lightly! and their mission of environmental conservation.”

Tread Lightly!’s goal is to balance the needs of the people who enjoy outdoor recreation with the need to maintain healthy ecosystems and thriving populations of wildlife across the nation. Funds from the first retail unit of the GMC HUMMER EV Edition 1 SUV will be used to support its conservation mission as well as promote outdoor ethics and a sense of good stewardship in nature.

COMING IN EARLY 2024

Deliveries of the 2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 are expected to begin in early 2024, with a starting MSRP of $107,000 (plus DFC)¹⁷. Further details for the full range of Sierra EV models will be announced closer to the start of production, with MSRPs starting around $50,000 (plus DFC)¹⁷.

More power, greater refinement for the Duramax Turbo-Diesel

The available enhanced 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel, paired with the 10-speed Allison transmission, now delivers 470 hp (at 2800 rpm) and 975 lb-ft (at 1600 rpm) of torque, offering more power across the entire operating speed range. Specifically, low-end torque production increases up to 25% compared to the current model for improved towing performance.

The 2024 Sierra HD will also offer best-in-class 2500 Crew Cab towing of up to 21,900² pounds and max 2500 towing of up to 22,500³ pounds, enabled by a new available Max Tow Package.

Additional changes and upgrades were designed to produce a more efficient combustion and enhance overall performance. This latest iteration of the Duramax engines adds additional refinements including:

• An all-new, more efficient turbocharger with improved efficiency to boost low-end torque
• Increased power and torque over the entire operating speed range
• Improved engine braking with a more powerful turbo vane actuator and uprated valve springs
• New cylinder heads with improved cooling jackets
• An all-new combustion system within the heads that’s matched with next-generation, higher-flow injectors and greater fuel injection pressure
• All-new engine controller

10-speed Allison transmission enhances gas-engine trailering capability

The Allision 10-speed automatic transmission is now paired with the Sierra HD’s standard 6.6L gas engine. It replaces the previous six-speed automatic, offering smaller “steps” between the gears, which enables the 6.6L gas engine to hold closer to its peak power (401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque) for longer periods.

That translates into a more confident feeling of on-demand power, regardless of whether the truck is towing a trailer — but when it is, trailering performance and capability are enhanced thanks in part to the 10-speed configuration, along with the capability of channeling every single pound-foot of torque to the tires in every gear. 

Elevated and Purposeful Technology

Best-in-Class Trailering Assistance Technologies

The 2024 Sierra HD will also offer the most trailering assistance technologies in the heavy-duty class¹ through the available ProGrade Trailering System. The ProGrade Trailering System includes a suite of available intelligent trailering assistance technologies designed to help streamline the hitching and towing process, with integrated tools that help enhance customers’ feelings of safety, confidence and visibility including these new enhancements:

• Available Enhanced, Industry First Transparent Trailer View⁵ for Gooseneck and Fifth Wheel Trailering: Allows the driver to virtually “see through” the trailer. Using the camera mounted on the rear of the truck and an accessory camera on the back of the trailer, it pieces together a view of the area behind the truck and trailer as if the trailer was not there, improving visibility. An enhanced version of this technology for model year 2024 enables compatibility with gooseneck and fifth-wheel trailers. 
• Available Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert⁶: Extends side blind zone alerts to include the blind zone areas around the trailer.
• New GCW Alert⁶: This all-new feature warns the driver if the vehicle and trailer weight exceed the vehicle’s Gross Combined Weight Rating.
• New, Available Adaptive Cruise Control⁶ with Trailering: Allows the Sierra HD’s available Adaptive Cruise Control to be used while trailering and to account for additional drag and increased braking distances when towing a trailer.

In total, the 2024 Sierra Heavy Duty offers up to 14 available camera views⁵ including:

• Hitch Guidance with Hitch View⁶: Provides a close-up view of the receiver hitch to help with alignment when connecting to a trailer. 
• Bed View with Zoom and Bed Hitch Guidance⁶: Allows you to see the cargo bed to help with fifth-wheel or gooseneck hitching or to briefly check on cargo.
• Rear Side View with Trailer Length Indicator⁶: With a compatible trailer attached and a turn signal activated, this view will show a full screen down the side of the truck along with a Trailer Length Indicator to aid in lane-change maneuvers by visually showing obstructions with the trailer in adjacent lanes.

High-Tech Digital Displays⁷

The centerpiece of Sierra’s high-tech interior cabin is the new available 13.4-inch-diagonal tablet-style touchscreen — the largest infotainment touchscreen in its class¹. Situated in landscape orientation, the touchscreen offers a user-friendly, customizable experience. An available multicolor 15-inch-diagonal head-up display and a new available 12.3-inch-diagonal digital instrument cluster are also added in 2024 model year. Together, this creates over 40 inches of immersive digital displays helping to provide an engaging, customizable and comprehensive driving experience.

The all-new touchscreen infotainment center can be configured to a user’s preference, including the ability to operate multiple apps simultaneously in a “split-screen” view (e.g., a Navigation⁸ app running on the left side of the screen and a Music app on the right). Sierra HD’s infotainment system will also integrate Google built-in⁹ (on all trims except Pro) allowing customers to connect virtually every aspect of their daily lives within their vehicle. The system is compatible with both Wireless Apple CarPlay¹⁰ and Wireless Android Auto¹¹.

DETROIT — Today, GMC announced the 2023 Canyon midsize truck will be revealed on Aug. 11 at 11 a.m. ET. In anticipation of the upcoming reveal, GMC is offering a glimpse at the truck’s off-road capability and a preview of the AT4X with Edition 1 package.

The first image provides a behind-the-scenes look at the rigorous development process the Canyon AT4X underwent in Moab, Utah, to help ensure the AT4X’s position as the most advanced and off-road capable Canyon ever.

Visible in the second image is a front view of the Canyon AT4X with Edition 1 package from the passenger’s side, giving a sneak peek of the next-generation Canyon’s higher and wider stance, which is factory lifted for optimal ground clearance.

GMC previously confirmed the 2023 model will mark the introduction of the AT4X trim to the Canyon lineup, offering premium and advanced off-road capability. First introduced on the 2022 GMC Sierra, the AT4X trim is the off-road optimized evolution of GMC’s increasingly popular AT4 sub-brand.

The new 2023 Sierra 1500 AT4X AEV Edition is the most off-road capable factory Sierra 1500 ever. Updates include:

• AEV stamped steel front and rear bumpers with heavy duty recovery points and winch capability (front bumper)
• Five hot-stamped boron steel skid plates (front approach, steering gear, transfer case, fuel tank and rear differential)
• Unique, race-inspired, laser-engraved 18-inch AEV Salta wheels in gloss black finish with AEV’s signature recessed valve system for added protection from rocks on the trail
• 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires
• Updated front grille and fascia to accommodate the new bumper and larger tires, gloss black door handles and a black contrast inner tailgate
• Exclusive AEV branding throughout the vehicle, including on bumpers, embroidered head rests and all-weather floor liners
• Available off-road rocker panel protectors to help shield the sills and frame rails and an optional bolt-on step assist when not off-roading

The AEV-stamped steel front and rear bumpers are constructed of 3-millimeter heavy-duty steel and are powder and e-coated for durability as well as UV and corrosion resistance. Additionally, this factory-installed front bumper is winch-capable, something that no other competitor in its class can match¹.

Five ultra-high-strength, hot-stamped boron steel skid plates help protect the underbody of the Sierra 1500 AT4X AEV Edition. This press-hardened steel is not only three-and-a-half times stronger than an equivalent cold-stamped high-strength steel part, but it also provides incredible resistance to gouging and bending.

When it comes time to head off-road, the Sierra 1500 AT4X AEV Edition’s bumpers and underbody protection deliver capability never before available in a factory Sierra 1500. When compared to the 2022 Sierra 1500 AT4X, the AEV Edition features improved off-road stats. The front approach angle increases by more than 27% to 32.5 degrees. The departure angle improves to 23.4 degrees (compared to 23 degrees) and the breakover angle improves to 23.0 degrees (compared to 22.7 degrees). The truck’s ground clearance also improves to 11.2 inches (compared to 10.8 inches).

The AEV edition is built on the Sierra 1500 AT4X trim that offers an exclusive premium interior and advanced off-road capability. Headline features include Multimatic DSSV dampers, front and rear e-locking differentials and two-speed transfer case with selectable modes for different off-road conditions such as Terrain mode for one pedal driving and Off-Road mode. All the while, the Sierra 1500 AT4X delivers excellent on-road comfort and trailering capability with a standard 6.2L V-8 engine. The AEV edition also features the luxury-focused and tech-infused AT4X Obsidian Rush interior. The cabin boasts full grain leather-wrapped power-massaging front seats, authentic Vanta ash wood trim, a 12-speaker Bose® Premium Series audio system and more than 40 diagonal inches of combined driver-focused digital displays — the most in its class¹.

Later in the 2023 model year, a new Sierra 1500 AT4X will be available with AEV-inspired enhancements, including a stamped steel winch-capable front bumper, boron steel front approach skid plate and 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires. These enhancements will increase the already formidable off-road capability of the AT4X through improved approach, departure and breakover angles, as well as improved ground clearance.

The new 2023 Sierra 1500 AT4X will continue to be a balanced execution that delivers extreme off-road capability when called upon without compromising the on-road comfort, technology and capability that customers have come to expect from a GMC pickup. The new Sierra 1500 AT4X will have a max payload of 1,290 pounds and max trailering of 8,700 pounds.

The Sierra 1500 AT4X AEV Edition and the new AT4X will be available later in the 2023 model year.

DETROIT – Today, GMC teased the next-generation Canyon mid-size truck and confirmed the introduction of the AT4X trim to the Canyon lineup. The Canyon will become the second vehicle in GMC’s lineup to adopt the AT4X trim – GMC’s off-road optimized performance trim that offers serious capability and uncompromising refinements.

The current generation Canyon debuted in 2014. Since then, GMC has upgraded the mid-size truck over the years to include the AT4 trim and an off-road performance package that adds a 1-inch suspension leveling kit, off-road rocker panel protection, and front and mid skid plates. Most recently, GMC revealed the Canyon AT4 concept last year, which included a number of off-roading and overlanding accessories.

The next-generation Canyon AT4X signals the next chapter for GMC’s mid-size truck with the teaser previewing the Canyon AT4X’s badging, rocker protectors and 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels.

GMC will reveal the next-generation Canyon including Canyon AT4X in summer 2022.

DETROIT — GMC and A+E Networks® announced the television premiere of “REVOLUTION: GMC HUMMER EV,” a new documentary showcasing the development of the all-electric supertruck.

First airing in the DRIVE block on The HISTORY® Channel on Sunday, March 27, at 11 a.m. ET, the 60-minute film follows the hand-selected group of General Motors team members that helped launch the company’s first all-electric pickup in record time – just over two years. Thanks to the documentary crew’s unfettered access, viewers will go behind the scenes of key moments in the development of the GMC HUMMER EV, from inception to start of production.

“Our goal was to upend what an electric vehicle is capable of and push the boundaries from 100 years of vehicle development experience,” said Josh Tavel, executive chief engineer. “This documentary captures the soul of a team capable of incredible innovation and resilience. Their learnings are laying the foundation of vehicle development for decades to come.”

GMC selected Detroit-based WTP Pictures and Hiatus to produce the film, and director Sean King O’Grady to bring the team’s journey to life. Join the team in the freezing temperatures of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula as they test the limits of the GMC HUMMER EV on snow and ice. Then, head to the scorching heat and steep red rocks of Moab, Utah, as the team fine-tunes the truck’s off-road capability. Along the way, viewers will dive deeper into GM’s testing and development facilities – previously unseen by the public – including the storied halls of the GM Design building at the Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan, and the company’s rigorous proving grounds in Milford, Michigan, and Yuma, Arizona.

Viewers will also go inside the massive undertaking to build out and retool GM’s Factory ZERO Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant. The documentary also showcases the development of GM’s Ultium Platform, a dedicated EV architecture and propulsion system that provides flexible applications in nearly every type of vehicle. Alongside the 2022 GMC HUMMER EV, this trifecta reinforces GM’s commitment to an all-electric future.

“The story we discovered while filming was far more fascinating than anything we could have hoped for,” said O’Grady. “We witnessed a bold and passionate team bring GM’s first major entry into this extraordinary transformation of the auto industry. This was an incredible opportunity to go deep behind the scenes of the development process to discover what it takes to bring a vehicle to life, and to capture this moment in automotive history as it happened.”

Following the premiere on The HISTORY® Channel, there will be an encore showing of the film on FYI™ on Thursday, March 31, at 9 p.m. ET.
