eAssist and the 2012 Buick LaCrosse

Are you one of those people who put your car in neutral when you’re at a stop light or even go as far as turning your car off when you’re just idling for a bit all in hopes to save a few drops of that ever so precious commodity, gasoline?

If you are one of those people, then you may want to look into the new 2012 Buick LaCrosse with its advance eAssist technology. It literally has the technology to switch from gas to battery when you’re idling and save you lots of gas. And can go right back from battery to gas when you step on the gas pedal. Pretty awesome, right?!

The 2012 Buick LaCrosse with eAssist is a hybrid of a hybrid, but not so hybrid that you’ll only be shopping at natural foods stores for the rest of your life. In fact, the fuel saving it gets from its start-stop technology will leave you feeling like you do your part to help save the earth so that you can eat your Big Mac too. Did I mention that it gets 25 miles per gallon in the city and a rather impressive 36 mpg highway! Pretty good if I do say so myself!

Buick has also put out a 30-second commercial explaining the simplicity of the eAssist comparing it to us running in place when we’re not moving. It’s a clever one! Check it out here:

Though, I will say that running in place is a great workout. You should try it sometimes but be warned that you’ll get some looks, but that’s just funny in itself! But in all seriousness, find out more about the 2012 Buick LaCrosse with eAssist today at Freeman Grapevine in Ft. Worth.

Not just another Texting and Driving Article

texting and driving apps, grapevine cars, gmc fort worth, dealerships dfw, buick dealer, GMC dealer, used cars dfw, used cars fort worthI’ve written at least 3 articles in regards to texting and driving, so there’s no need to rehash everything I’ve already said. This post is actually about apps available for your smart phone device. I found this list while doing my research for this blog, so if you find something you can add here, please leave me a comment below.

Anyway, these are the apps I found that I hope you will look into to curb your phone use while driving:

DriveSafe.ly (Free)

This BlackBerry app called DriveSafe.ly reads your incoming text messages and emails to you thanks to its text to speech functionality. You can even create customizable auto-responses for your outgoing messages.

On the Move (Free)

This Android app, called On the Move, was developed to deter avid texters from checking their screens while driving. Acting as an auto-reply tool when you receive a message, On the Move tells the texter that you’re driving with a customized alert.

Otter ($4)

Not only does the Android-based Otter send auto replies to texters when you’re on the road, but you can also build custom quick responses, so you don’t waste time fumbling to text back on your small virtual or QWERTY keyboard.

ShoutOut ($1)

Called ShoutOut, this iPhone app dictates your speech to a text message, then sends it along to your chosen recipient. This app comes with a per-text cost though, with 50 voice-to-text messages costing $2, and 250 voice texts setting you back $5.

Type n Walk ($1)

Meant more for walkers than drivers, the Type n Walk app works with other apps and programs on your iPhone to give you a view of where you’re going so you can stare at your phone all the time. This way, you won’t run into telephone poles, mailboxes, and you know, other people.

Sprint’s Drive First App

Available for $2 a month in the third half of 2011, the Sprint Drive First App will lock up your phone while driving and route all calls to voicemail. Additionally, it will block all text message alerts and send an auto response saying the driver is unavailable, but still give you access to three main contacts, three apps, and GPS.

Again, I don’t want to get on my soapbox again about distracted driving, but if that text is so important that you just can’t stop yourself from texting and driving, I suggest you look into getting one of the apps mentioned above.

Of course, when you get into that fender bender because you were texting and rear-ended the car that suddenly stopped in front of you, you can always bring it into Freeman Grapevine…we see a lot of these types of accidents.

Fort Worth: The Buick Regal Wagon is on the Horizon

Remember the days of the station wagon? The 4 door ‘family truckster’ with the large hatchback gave way to the minivan crazy in the 90’s. Soccer moms and dads traded in their hatchback beauties for vehicle with more interior space when it became necessary to cart around teams of children and all of their equipment. It’s not that the station wagon couldn’t compete in regards to it’s cargo space, it really had more to do with its curb appeal.

Well, all of that is about to change as it appears (and I’ve heard chatter) that Buick is on the precipice of releasing a wagon version of the Regal. According to a recent post on autoblog:

One year ago, a Buick Regal wagon was deemed “unlikely.” However, General Motors is reportedly looking to expand the Regal lineup, not just with a rumored coupe, but with the estate seen here. Sources within GM say that the Regal wagon could debut as early as the end of this year, making it a 2012 model year vehicle.

Look to this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show for the first glimpse of the 2012 Buick Regal Wagon. It’s, no doubt, going to turn a few heads. There’s talk of 19-inch wheels and a bunch of other tasty treats.

If this wagon does make it to the production line…and all signs are saying it will…Buick will be firmly planted to go after the aforementioned Soccer Mom/Dad crowd. Considering that Freeman Grapevine is situated virtually in heart of the DFW Metroplex, you can bet that I’ll have a few of these on the lot if and when they are released.

If you are interested in the 2012 Buick Regal Wagon, check here often, as I’ll be keeping everyone up to date on it’s drop date and availability.

Fort Worth: There’s big news for the 2012 Buick LaCrosse

The big news for the 2012 model year Buick LaCrosse sedan is the introduction of a new standard 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with eAssist and a newer, more powerful and more efficient version of the direct-injected, E85-capable 3.6-liter V6 unit that sits atop of the range.

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f48X-VhKbCo

The entry-level LaCrosse with GM’s micro-hybrid eAssist technology is expected to deliver 25 percent better highway fuel economy than the current base model with the 182HP 2.4-liter four-pot, but not without a penalty at the showroom as prices start at $29,960 before an $860 destination charge for a total of $30,820. That’s an increase of $2,830 over the current 2011 LaCrosse CX.

General Motors said the 2012 LaCrosse with eAssist delivers up to 37 mpg highway fuel economy compared to 30mpg of the 2011 model year sedan with the four-cylinder engine. The same hybrid powertrain will also make its way into the 2012 Buick Regal later this year.

The 2012  also brings an updated version of the LaCrosse’s range-topping 3.6-liter V6 engine with variable valve timing and direct-injection technology. According to the Detroit automaker, the front-wheel-drive 3.6-liter model is rated at 303-horsepower and 264 lb-ft (358 Nm) of peak torque, an improvement of 23HP and 5 lb-ft respectively over the 2011MY LaCrosse’s V6. Pricing for the top-end V6 models has not yet been announced,

Standard features include dual-zone climate control, 17-inch alloy wheels, and Bluetooth and USB connectivity. Later in the year, the LaCrosse eAssist will come with standard Buick IntelliLink, which uses Bluetooth or USB to connect the driver’s smartphone to a new 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It will enable streaming stereo audio from the phone through services like PANDORA and Stitcher, as well as full control of a paired device through the touchscreen display or steering wheel mounted buttons.

Come in and take a look at it yourself…I can describe it, but driving is definitely believing.

Fort Worth: Just when you’ve seen it all…

Wow, I really thought I had seen just about everything…until I saw this, and it wasn’t in a James Bond film.

Rinspeed presented its new sQuba, the world’s first diving car, at the Geneva Motor Show a few years ago. The car is not only able to drive on roads autonomously with a push of a button (thus without a driver, passenger or further assistance), but can also transform into an amphibious vehicle which can be submerged in water up to 33 feet. An electric motor with powerful torque drives the rear wheels, while the propulsion on the water is ensured by two propellers in the stern and two powerful jet drives in the bow propelling the vehicle under water while diving. When underwater, the driver and passenger are enclosed in the vehicle thanks to light weight body components made of futuristic Carbon Nano Tubes and are supplied with fresh breathing air by the self-contained on-board system.

Pretty cool, huh? I wonder if it comes with the tuxedo?

The Great Texas Debate! Cloth or Leather, Fort Worth?

Cloth vs. Leather

Cloth or Leather? Cloth or Leather? Which is better? What can I afford? These are just a few of the many questions you will ask yourself when deciding on whether you want Cloth or Leather in your new car or truck. No doubt you will discuss this for a while before making a decision.

First thing to think about when deciding is your kids. If you have kids and you let them snack or drink in the car, be prepared for messes. When you have cloth interior in your vehicle it’s difficult to keep it clean with kids in tow. It is cheaper than leather but always think about the kids. Yes, we live in Texas and yes summers can be scorching. Cloth will not bond to your skin when your wearing shorts during those hot summer days or freeze your legs and bum during those chilly Texas months. Are you a smoker? Cloth soaks in odors. Anything and everything you put in your car can be soaked into your cloth. Think about picking kids up from football practice all sweaty and stinky or your dog getting sick in the back seat. That could be quite a mess to clean up. Cloth is more likely to fade and you better watch that cigarette that could burn holes in the cloth that may not present any damage on leather. Cloth is also susceptible to rips and tears over time.

Leather is a must in luxury vehicles and a common standard in most other vehicles. Leather does not hold smells, it’s easy to clean, it has a lovely scent, it doesn’t stain or burn like cloth. However, leather does take a little work to keep looking fresh. You should consider using cleaning lotions regularly on the leather as it will help preserve the leather and keep it looking healthy. Sometimes dirt, grease, and oils from your skin can transfer to the leather making it look dirty. If you regularly clean and use cleaning lotions on your leather you can reduce the dirty look. It’s also very important to have your windows tinted to protect them from those pesky rays from the sun that can dry out and possibly even crack your leather.

Of course ultimately your decision will depend on your lifestyle. If you’re hardly in your car and don’t travel much you may prefer cloth. If you have a few kids and a crazy dog that sheds you may prefer leather cause it’s easier to clean. The decision is yours, but if you still can’t decide, swing by my place, Fort Worth and take a spin and see which one suits you better.

Turbo Buick and 32 mpg? Believe it, Fort Worth!

It used to be that if you wanted a car with more horsepower, you’d have to settle for a car that gets less gas mileage. Not so with the Buick Regal Turbo. In these times of fluctuating gas prices, the emphasis has understandably been focused on gas sipping, low horsepower people movers with style and performance taking a back seat. This is not the  case with the late 2011 introduction of the Buick Regal Turbo.

According to automedia.com:

The Regal Turbo returns late on 2011, with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Performance is core to the character, offering a sporty alternative to the current 2.4-liter naturally aspirated version, yet this time it is fuel economy that is the main boast. Buick original claimed the turbo would hit 29 mpg on the highway, but the lux division has announced that the car will be EPA rated for 32 mpg. Around town, it will get a less-inspiring 20-mpg city rating.

To put those numbers in perspective, the Buick Turbo produces 220 horsepower, besting the Acura TSX and Volkswagen CC by about 20 hp each. More noticeably, the Buick trounces the Acura with 86 more lbs.-ft. of torque. The VW is bested by 51 lbs.-ft.  And yes, the Buick with a six-speed manual transmission will also get better highway mileage.

The Buick Regal Turbo’s most popular transmission of choice will most likely be automatic, but it will also offer three driver-selectable modes that will alter the car’s personality by adjusting suspension tuning, shift pattern, and steering sensitivity through the variable effort steering system. Thus giving the Regal owner more control and they opportunity to adjust the car to their driving habits as opposed to having to adjust to the car itself.

At a sticker of just over 28K for an turbo automatic, this car is definitely something you need to drive for yourself. The fact that you get more car for your money? Well that’s just added bonus for you.

Anyone wanting to take a test drive should swing by my place. If you own or have already drivin’ the 2011 Buick Regal Turbo, then leave us a comment and tell us what you think about this car. I for one love it!

What can a Car Dealer do to feed the Hungry In DFW?

That’s actually a rhetorical question. The one great thing about running a car dealership is there are so many thing that I can do for my community because of my resources and outlets.

The North Texas Food Bank for example is 40% down in food reserves from last year. This is a considerable burden on North Texas Families this holiday season. It is certain difficult to know that so many in my area are in desperate need of food and clothing this year, so difficult that I’ve taken it upon myself to have start a friendly competition with Classic Chevrolet across the street to see who can gain the most fans and donate the most food.

For Every new fan we get I’ll donate $1 to the North Texas Food Bank. If you want too bring by cans of food to Freeman Grapevine, for every 5 cans you will get lottery ticket for a $1,000 Shopping spree. We ant to make it something everyone can be proud of and we know it takes a little effort on your part, so Freeman Grapevine is willing to throw some rewards your way too.

Think about it. All you have to do is fan our facebook page and that is a $1 donated to the NTFB. That $1 can buy 4 meals. Really! Just $1 dollar can feed an entire family! Even if you don’t live in the DFW area, your simple act of kindness can really help Americans who have been the hardest hit by our lowest economic down turn ever.

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zr07K6ddsu4

I’m not begging for fans, this isn’t a sales pitch…in fact I using my blog to out reach to my readers to help out my community that is in dire need of assistance this holiday. So while you are grocery shopping for that 28 lb turkey with all of the fixins’, remember you probably have a neighbor who is lucky to eat just a peanut butter sandwich…and I’ll tell you what, I’ll bet they are as, if not more appreciative of that meal than a person who’s plate is loaded with food they probably won’t even finish.

If you’d like to fan the page so I can donate in your name, just follow the link and like us www.facebook.com/freemangrapevine

Thank you in advance for your selflessness. This holiday season, the homeless and hungry need you help and I can help you help give. just visit our FB page and like it.

Thank you for your giving from Freeman Grapevine, The North Texas Food Bank and the hungry North Texans.
